Review Methodology

How We Review CRM Software

Top7CRM.com tests and rates CRM platforms for startups, solo founders, and small teams. This page explains exactly how we score every review, where our information comes from, and how we stay independent from the companies we cover.

In short

We review CRM software by checking each vendor’s official pricing and feature pages, modeling real costs for small teams, and scoring platforms against the same criteria every time. Ratings are never influenced by affiliate partnerships, and we label vendor claims as vendor claims rather than presenting them as our own findings.

Who We Are

Top7CRM.com is a CRM review and comparison site built for startups, solo founders, and small teams choosing between customer relationship management platforms. We currently cover five CRM platforms in depth: HubSpot, Zoho, Freshworks, Capsule, and Drip, with more comparisons added over time.

Our goal is simple: help a small team pick a CRM without spending weeks reading marketing pages. Every review on this site follows the same process described below, so you can compare our ratings across platforms and trust that the same bar was applied to each one.

Our Review Process

Our Review Process

  1. Source verification. We check each vendor's own homepage, pricing, and feature pages. If they publish case studies, we read those too, but treat them as marketing, not proof.
  2. Small team scoring. We judge every CRM on the same things: free plan value, pricing at different team sizes, setup effort, feature depth, AI tools, support, integrations, and room to grow.
  3. Cost modeling. Instead of copying a price table, we work out what a 1, 5, and 10 person team would really pay per month and per year.
  4. Claim labeling. If a stat comes from the vendor, like a customer's growth numbers or an AI accuracy claim, we say so instead of stating it as fact.
  5. Independent scoring. Our ratings come from our own editorial team. No vendor sees or influences them before we publish.
  6. Ongoing updates. Pricing and features change, so we recheck vendor pages regularly and note any changes in the update log.

What We Score, and Why

Our Scoring Criteria

Every review rates a CRM across the same seven categories, so you can compare platforms side by side.

Category What we look at
Ease of use How much setup and configuration a small team needs before the CRM is useful
Pricing value What a team actually pays per month and per year, not just the lowest listed price
Features Depth of sales, marketing, service, and automation tools relative to the price
Free plan Whether a free tier exists, what it includes, and where its limits sit
Integrations The number and quality of third party app connections available
Support What support is included by default versus what costs extra
Scalability Whether the platform has a clear, reasonably priced path from a small team to a larger one

Each category is scored out of 5, and the overall rating is a weighted view across all seven, not a simple average, since pricing value and features matter more to a small team’s decision than, for example, scalability alone.

What "Hands On" Means on This Site

We are direct about the difference between a review based on official documentation and one based on our own extended use of a product. Where a review states that it is based on official sources and cost modeling rather than a long term hands on test, that is exactly what it means. Where we have tested a feature ourselves, such as a mobile app or an AI agent, we say so and describe what we found.

Did You Know?

Google’s guidance on product reviews rewards first hand testing, original screenshots, and evidence over reviews that only summarize a vendor’s marketing pages. We aim to build toward more hands on testing across our reviews over time, and we mark clearly which reviews already include it.

How We Stay Independent

Top7CRM.com may earn a commission if you sign up for a CRM through a link on this site. This is disclosed on every review page. That relationship never changes what we publish:

  • Vendors cannot pay for a better rating, a longer review, or removal of a listed con.
  • Our star ratings and category scores are set before we add any affiliate link to a page.
  • We list real drawbacks for every platform we review, including ones we recommend.
  • We do not accept free products or payment in exchange for a positive review.

CRM software changes constantly, including prices, free plan limits, and feature names. FAQs

Not every review currently includes long term hands on testing. Where a review is based on official documentation and cost modeling rather than direct testing, we say so plainly on the page.

No. We may earn a commission if you sign up through a link on our site, but no vendor pays for a review, a rating, or favorable treatment.

We recheck vendor pricing and features on a regular basis and update reviews when something material changes, noting the update in that page’s update log.

Email contact@top7crm.com with what you think we got wrong. We review every message and correct factual errors.
